If you don’t know which one you have, check the sticker on the inside of the door section near the roller bracket. The series code is printed there, usually a four digit number starting with a 9 for the standard line and a 7 for the HVHZ line.
The part that matters most is the hinge gauge. ViewLux impact doors use 11 gauge hinges on the HVHZ line and 14 gauge on the standard line. Putting a 14 gauge hinge on an HVHZ door is a real problem in Fresno wind season, and we’ve seen it done by other shops. If the label is gone, measure the end stile: HVHZ stiles measure 20 gauge or thicker; the standard series runs 24 to 26 gauge. The OEM parts are worth the extra spend on the HVHZ line. On the standard line, quality aftermarket hinges and rollers from manufacturers like Clopay’s commercial division do fine, and we’ll tell you when that’s the right call.
Signs Your ViewLux Impact Garage Door Is Failing
- Door binds or catches one foot off the floor. This usually means a bent end hinge or a worn roller. The hinge pin ovalizes first on the side that carries the operator load, which on most Fresno garages is the left side when viewed from inside.
- Bottom seal has tears or gap under one corner. ViewLux bottom seals are extruded T-channel rubber that degrades fast under triple-digit heat. We replace more bottom seals on ViewLux doors in the Fresno zip codes than any other single part.
- Operator runs but the door barely moves. That’s almost always the torsion spring, not the operator motor. Springs lose tension gradually. When the door gets heavy, the spring is why.
- Loud grinding when the door reaches mid-travel. That’s a roller bearing that has lost its seal. Once the bearing runs dry, the roller stem starts chewing the track, and you’ll need a new roller and possibly a new bracket.
- Top panel flexes or bows when wind hits it. This points to compromised struts. Impact doors depend on the strut for their wind rating. If you’re in a newer northwest Fresno neighborhood with open lots, the wind load is real.
