PGT Impact Garage Doors: The Fresno Owner’s Guide
We stock and install PGT-compatible impact garage doors throughout Fresno, with most complete door replacements running $2,800 to $6,500 installed depending on size, series, and hardware condition. Most single-panel or section replacements on PGT doors can be matched and completed within two business days. Homeowners usually discover they need this page because a panel has cracked, a roller has seized, or the door no longer seals tight against a Fresno summer afternoon.
If your PGT impact door groans, drags, or shows daylight through a corner when closed, the fix is rarely the whole door. It’s usually one worn component that failed before everything else.
Which PGT Models This Applies To
PGT impact garage doors in this region fall into a few series lines: the WinGuard aluminum doors, the Premier vinyl line, and the older SpectraGuard models that are still on a lot of Clovis and Woodward Park homes. The model identifier is on a label fixed to the left side jamb or the top edge of the door panel. Take a photo of that label before calling anyone. It gives us the series, the exact panel profile, and the production year, and it saves a second trip.
OEM replacement is the safe route for panel sections and glazing beads, because PGT extrusion profiles changed slightly between series. A WinGuard panel from 2013 will not seat flush into a Premiere frame from 2021, even if both say “impact rated.” We carry genuine PGT sections plus quality aftermarket rollers and tracks that are dimensionally identical and last as long. Meridian Windows and Doors is an independent service provider; we are not a PGT dealer, but we work on their doors every week. CGI, CWS, and ES Windows parts pass through our truck regularly too.
Signs Your PGT Impact Garage Door Is Failing
- Hesitation or grinding on the way up. Worn nylon rollers or a failing opener gear is usually the cause. On an impact-rated door the panels are heavier, so the rollers take more abuse than a standard two-car door.
- A loose side hinge or visible gap at the jamb. High-cycle hinge rivets work loose over years of Fresno dust and heat. Once one hinge wobbles, the panel weight shifts and the track starts wearing unevenly.
- Bowing or hairline cracks in the lower panel. Impact doors are tough, but a backed-in trailer hitch or a rock thrown from a mower can fracture the outer skin. Once the facing splits, moisture gets into the core and the panel must be replaced.
- The door sits crooked or won’t close to the floor. A stretched cable or a failing extension spring on one side changes the load balance. Do not attempt to adjust the springs yourself. That tension can take off a finger or worse.
- Seal dragging or light showing through the bottom corners. The bottom weatherstrip flattens out in Central Valley heat. A new PGT bulb seal restores the impact and weather rating, and it’s a ten minute fix once the door is lifted.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
On most PGT impact garage doors in Fresno, a full single-door replacement runs $2,800 to $4,800 installed. A two-car door, or any door with glass lites and a reinforced top section, lands between $4,200 and $6,500. Section-only replacement is cheaper: most 18 to 21 inch panel sections run $500 to $1,100 including installation and refit of the original hardware.
- Removal and haul-off of the old door: included
- New panel or door, matched to series: included
- Track alignment and rebalancing: included
- New bottom seal and perimeter weatherstrip: included on full doors
- Labor warranty: covered in writing for 365 days; if it fails, we come back at no charge
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check the rollers, the track alignment, and the weatherstrip condition with the door in the lowered position. That inspection tells you a lot. What you should not do is release the torsion assembly or pull the bottom cable. High-tension springs on an impact door carry a serious load, and a wrong move with a winding bar puts you in an emergency room. The same goes for replacing a glass lite: the glazing bead seats under pressure, and a cracked lite on an impact-rated PGT door is not a normal window pane.
If the door is off balance, grinding, or cracked at the panel, this is the one to call in. We bring the correct PGT section on the first trip once you send a photo of the jamb label. Call (559) 272-4716 and we’ll get the model identified over the phone.
FAQs
A properly maintained PGT impact door lasts 18 to 25 years in our climate, with the bottom seal and rollers needing replacement every 5 to 8 years.
No. Once the outer skin splits, the foam core loses its integrity and the panel can’t be glued or patched safely. We match the series and swap the panel.
A single-door replacement takes one visit, usually 4 to 6 hours from start to test cycle. Two-car doors and custom lite configurations take a full day.
We carry common PGT rollers, tracks, hinges, and weatherseal on every truck. Panels and full doors are ordered by series and delivered to our yard in Fresno before we set the install date.
Measure twice, install once, write it down. That’s how we run every PGT impact garage door job in Fresno. Call (559) 272-4716 to schedule your free estimate, and you’ll get a written price before a single screw turns.
