ECO Window Systems Window Installation: The Fresno Owner’s Guide
ECO Window Systems window installation in Fresno typically runs $450 – $900 per window installed, depending on frame size, glass package, and whether the opening needs reframing. We stock ECO Window Systems-compatible replacement parts on our trucks and can complete most single-window swaps in one visit. Most Fresno homeowners discover a failed unit when the sash starts sticking, the glass fogs between panes, or a draft shows up around the frame that wasn’t there last year. ECO units are good windows, but the Central Valley heat takes a toll on seals, balances, and weatherstripping faster than coastal installs ever see.
We’re an independent service provider here in Fresno, not affiliated with ECO Window Systems corporate. That matters because we give you an honest read on whether the OEM part or a quality aftermarket equivalent is the better spend. Elliot Vance and our crew have pulled apart enough ECO units to know where they wear and what’s worth saving.
Which ECO Window Systems Models This Applies To
ECO Window Systems manufactures a few distinct lines, and the part you need depends on which one is in your house. The ECO 3000 and ECO 5000 series are the most common in Fresno homes built between 2005 and 2020. The 3000 line uses standard 2-5/8″ frames with single-strength glass. The 5000 series steps up to a 3-1/4″ frame and often carries low-E glass (a thin coating that reflects heat while letting light through). Both lines use proprietary balance systems, and here’s the gotcha: a balance from the 3000 will not fit a 5000 sash, even if the visible dimensions match.
How to identify what you have: look for the white sticker on the top rail of the sash or on the frame’s hinge side. It shows the series number, build date, and glass specs. If the sticker is gone, measure the frame depth. 2-5/8″ says 3000. 3-1/4″ says 5000. We carry both balance types on our trucks, along with the matching pivot bars and tilt latches. As for OEM versus aftermarket: ECO-branded balances run about 20 – 30% more than the equivalents we source from Caldwell and Amesbury, and in our experience the aftermarket parts hold up just as well in California sun. We stock both and will show you the price difference before you decide.
Signs Your ECO Window Systems Window Installation Is Failing
- Sash drops when you raise it. The coil or spiral balance has lost tension or snapped. This is the most common failure we see on ECO units in Fresno, and it usually hits windows on the south and west sides first because the constant heat degrades the plastic balance components.
- Fog between the glass panes. The insulated glass unit’s seal has failed. In Fresno’s summer, daytime temperatures push 100°F and nighttime drops 30 degrees, and that daily expansion-contraction cycle gradually pulls seals apart. The glass is still intact but the unit is done.
- Draft at the sill or meeting rail. Weatherstripping has flattened or the sash isn’t seating fully. On ECO units, the wool pile strips at the meeting rail tend to wear thin on windows that get opened every day during the spring and fall shoulder seasons.
- Tilt latches won’t engage or the sash won’t stay tilted in for cleaning. The plastic tilt latch or the pivot bar underneath has worn. This one’s a stress fracture issue – the nylon parts get brittle after five or six Fresno summers.
- Lock doesn’t line up or won’t throw. The keeper is misaligned from a sagging sash, or the lock’s internal cam is stripped. On the south-facing windows especially, we see the vinyl frame expand just enough in August to throw off the alignment by a sixteenth of an inch.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s the straight pricing for ECO Window Systems window installation in Fresno:
- Balance replacement (one sash): $95 – $180 installed
- Tilt latch or pivot bar replacement: $65 – $140 installed
- Weatherstripping replacement (full window): $80 – $175 installed
- Insulated glass unit replacement: $220 – $450 per sash, depending on glass package
- Complete window replacement (installed): $450 – $900 per window
Every price goes on paper before we start work, and it does not move at the door. The range depends on frame size, accessibility (single-story versus second floor with ladder work), and whether the opening needs any reframing due to rot or settling. Parts are billed at cost, labor at a flat rate. The work is covered in writing for 365 days under our Done Right Promise – if it fails within that period, we come back at no charge. We also keep the price tied to a written line-item quote, so you know exactly what you paid for the part and what you paid for the labor.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things before picking up the phone. Look for the series sticker I mentioned. Note whether the sash drops hard or eases down. Check if the tilt latches click when you push them in. That tells us a lot. What you should not do is yank the sash out and start poking at the balance system. Replacing a coil balance looks straightforward on a YouTube video, but a slipped screwdriver in the balance channel can gouge the vinyl track, turning a quick fix into a new frame. The tension in some balances is also strong enough to send small parts flying. If you’re unsure, call (559) 272-4716 and we’ll tell you over the phone whether it sounds like something worth a service call. Estimates are free, and a live person answers the phone 24 hours a day.
FAQs
Seals and balances on ECO windows in the Central Valley typically last 10 to 15 years before showing wear. Windows on south- and west-facing walls wear out faster because of the summer heat load. If your home is 12 or more years old and you’re seeing fog or sag, it’s normal – not a lemon. Call (559) 272-4716 and we’ll give you an honest read on whether a repair or full replacement is the smarter spend.
Balance systems and tilt latches are replacement-only – they’re molded plastic and spring steel, not rebuildable. Insulated glass units are also replacement-only, since a blown seal can’t be resealed in the field. Weatherstripping is replaced, not repaired, but it’s also the cheapest fix on the list. We never push a repair that won’t hold; if a part is done, we tell you it’s done and put the price in writing.
A balance, latch, or weatherstripping replacement on an ECO window takes 30 to 60 minutes per window, including cleanup. A full insulated glass unit replacement runs 1 to 2 hours. A complete window replacement is usually a half day for one or two windows. We bring the parts on the truck, so there’s no second trip unless the frame needs work we didn’t know about.
We keep the most common ECO 3000 and 5000 series balances, tilt latches, pivot bars, and weatherstripping stocked on our service trucks right here in Fresno. Insulated glass units are cut to order and typically ready in 5 to 7 business days. If you have a window we don’t stock from our other lines – PGT, CGI, or CWS – we can order it. But ECO parts are on the truck because that’s what most of our Fresno customers have.
