Mr-Glass Impact Garage Doors: The Fresno Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Mr-Glass impact-rated garage doors across Fresno, with most complete door replacements running $2,800 to $6,400 installed depending on size, series, and reinforcement requirements. Most owners discover a problem when the door starts binding on the track, sits uneven in the opening, or makes a grinding sound during operation. Other times it’s more obvious: a panel shows impact damage from a storm, or the door no longer seals tight against the Central Valley heat. Whatever the symptom, the fix usually comes down to matching the right component or door to the original Mr-Glass design, and doing it before the problem compounds into opener strain or track damage. Elliot Vance and our crew handle these calls regularly from Clovis to Madera Ranchos, and we keep the common failure points in stock so you’re not waiting on a two-week freight order.
Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To
Mr-Glass impact garage doors are built on a reinforced panel and track system designed for windborne debris zones, and the compatibility details matter more than most homeowners realize. The original Mr-Glass lines most commonly installed in Fresno include the WDG series (wind-rated, non-impact), the IDG impact series (tested for large and small missile impact), and the architectural AI series. Each uses a different panel thickness and reinforcement channel, which means a part from one line does not automatically fit another. Match the wrong panel and you create a weight imbalance the opener was never spec’d to lift.
When you call, we’ll ask you to check the label on the inside edge of the door near the bottom panel. It carries the series designation, panel width, and wind load rating, usually stamped on a silver compliance sticker. If that sticker is gone, the panel height measurement (typically 21 or 24 inches per section) and the track gauge get us most of the way there. For older Mr-Glass doors, OEM replacement panels are still available for most series, but lead times run two to three weeks. Quality aftermarket panels exist for the WDG series, and in many cases they perform identically at 20 to 30 percent less. For the IDG impact series, we recommend staying with OEM. The impact rating depends on the full assembly, and substituting a panel that was not tested as part of that system can void the product approval. We are an independent Fresno service provider, not affiliated with Mr-Glass, but we’ll tell you straight when an aftermarket equivalent is fine and when it’s not.
Signs Your Mr-Glass Impact Garage Doors Is Failing
- Door binds or jerks mid-travel. Usually a bent or worn roller, but on impact doors it can also mean a section has torqued out of alignment. We see this after high-wind events where one panel took lateral force.
- Visible gap between sections when closed. This points to worn hinge plates or stretched panel reinforcement. On impact-rated doors, a gap means the seal integrity is gone, which defeats the door’s storm rating and lets Fresno heat pour in.
- Grinding from one side during operation. Typically a failed roller bearing or a track that pulled away from the jamb. Ignoring it scores the roller stem and then the track itself needs replacement.
- Bottom panel shows impact damage or rust-through. Central Valley dust and irrigation overspray eat unprotected steel from the bottom up. Once the bottom seal channel corrodes, water and debris get in, and the panel loses structural rating.
- Opener strains and reverses. The door may have gained weight from moisture absorption in the insulation or lost spring tension. A strained opener on an impact door is a warning sign that something below is wrong.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
For a complete Mr-Glass impact door replacement in Fresno, expect $2,800 to $6,400 installed. A single replacement panel usually falls between $480 and $950 depending on series, width, and window cutouts. Spring and hardware replacement on an existing door runs $220 to $410. These ranges cover parts, labor, haul-away of the old section or door, and re-balancing the system so the opener works without strain.
What moves the number is the series. The WDG line is the most economical. The IDG impact series costs more because of the heavier gauge steel, the reinforcement channels, and the tested glazing if you have window panels. A 16-foot double door adds roughly 30 to 40 percent over a single 8 or 9-foot door. Every quote we give is written down before work starts, and it does not move at the door. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a part we install fails within a year, we return at no charge. No fine print about labor exclusions.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check three things: confirm the compliance label so we know your series, measure the panel height and door width, and inspect the bottom seal for visible cracks. Anything beyond that, call us. Mr-Glass impact doors carry more panel weight than a standard residential door, and the torsion springs on these systems are under a lot more tension than homeowners expect. A spring unwinding while you’re working under it is not a hand injury. It’s a hospital visit or worse. We carry the calibrated winding bars, know the correct number of turns for each series, and re-test the balance after every job. If the tension is off, the best panel in the world destroys an opener in a season. Call (559) 272-4716 and we’ll give you a straight diagnosis and a written price.
FAQs
Plan on 12 to 18 years for the WDG series and 15 to 22 for the IDG impact series. Our Fresno climate shortens that for doors facing full afternoon sun on the west side of the house. The UV and triple-digit heat break down the panel finish and the bottom seal faster than anything else. If the door is on a south or west exposure, expect the bottom seal to need replacement every three to five years regardless of brand. Call (559) 272-4716 for an honest assessment of what’s left in yours.
Dents can sometimes be worked out on non-impact WDG panels, but any crease in the steel, cracking at the hinge mounts, or damage to the reinforcement channel means replacement. On the IDG impact series, we do not repair structural panel damage. The impact rating is a tested assembly, and a repaired panel is no longer what the engineer certified. Call us and we’ll tell you which category yours falls into before you spend a dollar.
A single panel replacement takes two to three hours on site if we have the correct series in stock. A full door replacement runs half a day, sometimes into the early afternoon if the track is being upgraded. If panels have to be ordered from Mr-Glass, add two to three weeks. We’ll tell you the timeline before we schedule anything.
We stock common WDG and IDG replacement panels, rollers, hinges, and bottom seals for the series most installed in this area. Uncommon sizes and the AI architectural series usually have to be ordered. Along with Mr-Glass, we also keep parts on hand for PGT, CGI, and CWS systems, since those are the impact products we install most often in the Central Valley. Call (559) 272-4716 and we’ll check inventory while you’re on the phone.
